Illness and injury are never on your travel itinerary, and we don’t imagine that “visit a new doctor’s office every time I travel” is on your bucket list. But, even the best laid plans sometimes go awry. Maybe the hike back down from that breathtaking waterfall was a little more challenging than you expected—now you’re left with some incredible pictures, but also a pulled hamstring. Or maybe you caught a bug on your flight, and now the only sightseeing you’re doing is from the window of your hotel room.
When medical mishaps try to derail your trip, Allianz Travel Insurance and Allyz® can help.
The Allyz® app now features a scheduling tool that allows you to search for doctors by location and specialty, so you can easily find care when and where you need it. And with the option to schedule a virtual appointment or an in-person visit (in the doctor's office, or even in your hotel room) care is convenient and accessible.
If you’re setting out on an excursion to one of the more than 85 countries where these services are available, you’ll receive an email ahead of your trip reminding you that this service is included with your plan, and encouraging you to download the Allyz® app.
Once you download Allyz®, look for “Global doctor visit” under the Services tab. This service is fully integrated into the Allyz® app, and gives you access to a worldwide network of vetted doctors, video consultations in many different languages, and expert, on-demand support. Allyz® also provides complementary services such as medical translations, a hospital finder, and more.
You also have the option to contact our travel assistance team directly if you have questions about these services or need help scheduling a doctor’s appointment at any time during your trip.
This new feature is a convenient way to schedule a doctor’s appointment to address unforeseen, non-emergency medical needs. Because, while certain minor annoyances are par for the course when traveling (who hasn’t run into a flight delay?), the unexpected can sometimes catch you off guard.
Maybe a common cold, stomach bug, or sprained ankle decides that your long-awaited trip is just the perfect time to strike. If it does, the doctor visits scheduling feature in the Allyz® app makes it easy to access care. And, you won’t have to pay a consultation fee for up to three appointments per person, per trip—so you can focus more on your wellness and worry less about your wallet.
When you’re not quite feeling your best, the last thing you want to worry about is your budget. As mentioned above, should you need to see a doctor while traveling, you won’t have to pay consultation fees for your first three visits. Should you incur other costs outside of the consultation fees, such as for prescriptions, you can file a claim with Allianz for reimbursement.
We hope your trip is memorable for all the right reasons. But, if something like a sinus infection rears its ugly head, or you’re feeling the fallout from wearing very new shoes on very old cobblestones, rest assured knowing that medical care is at your fingertips.
Does it matter which Allianz Travel Insurance plan I purchase, or can I use the Allyz® app and the doctor visits scheduling tool with any plan?
The Allyz® app, and all of its features, are available to Allianz customers regardless of which travel insurance plan they choose. However, the doctor visits scheduling tool is only available in certain countries, so make sure to double check whether your destination is included before you go.
What if I don’t feel better after the three covered appointments and need to schedule additional visits?
If you end up needing to book extra visits, you can call Allianz directly. Our Assistance team will assess your situation and can authorize additional visits if needed.
You said this scheduling tool is only for non-emergency medical needs. What should I do if I have a medical emergency?
If you think you might be having a medical emergency, you should call the emergency number in the country where you are located right away—if you need help finding it, the Allyz® app can help. Make sure to contact Allianz as soon as possible, as well. Our Assistance team is trained to help coordinate your care, and can set up direct billing with many hospitals, so there’s one less thing for you to worry about.
