Can you believe we’ve been watching The Bachelor since 2002? That’s a whole lotta roses — and a whole lotta ladies. Whether you hate to love watching it or you love hate-watching it, the ABC show is addictive.
The Bachelor also a powerful travel influencer. “Reaching several million Americans for what is essentially an hour-long commercial is enough to change a destination forever, as evidenced by some of the locations lucky enough to be featured,” Town & Country reports. Destinations like Croatia and St. Lucia saw a significant and lasting uptick in tourism after episodes aired.i
Over the years, the travel dates have become more and more extravagant, but many are within reach! We’ve selected six of our favorite Bachelor filming locations in the United States. If you’re planning your own romantic getaway (hopefully with one sweetie, instead of 25), be sure to protect your trip investment with travel insurance. Find the plan that’s perfect for your trip.
One of the weirdest dates in Bachelor history took place in season 16, when the women skied down a San Francisco street covered in fake snow. Did we mention they were wearing hats, scarves and bikinis? There was a lot of falling down, a lot of screeching, and a lot of not-so-helpful coaching from bachelor Ben Flajnik.
You won’t be able to re-enact that special date yourself. Nor can you climb to the top of the Bay Bridge, as Flajnik did with contestant Emily.ii You can, however, enjoy the more traditional San Fran experiences highlighted in The Bachelor: riding a trolley car through Chinatown and visiting the Beaux-Arts City Hall.
Season 22 brought bachelor Arie Luyendyk to Lake Tahoe, the drop-dead gorgeous getaway in the Sierra Nevadas. For a romantic Tahoe getaway, go parasailing at Zephyr Cove Resort, then dine and dance at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. For a less romantic but definitely memorable date, try a wilderness survival class. You can learn to eat maggots and earthworms for sustenance, just like the Bachelor contestants did (well, one of them, anyway).
Another Bachelor filming location featured in season 16 was Vieques, a small island off the eastern coast of Puerto Rico. Book a kayaking tour in the Caño Hondo, the world’s brightest bioluminescent bay, where the water teems with tiny, glowing organisms. You’ll fall in love with the island’s secluded and pristine beaches, and you might even glimpse its wild horses. To follow in the show’s footsteps, you can book a fabulous suite at the W Retreat & Spa — although the miX on the Beach restaurant, where the contestants dined, has since closed.
In the tenth season, bachelor Lt. Andy Baldwin brought three finalists to Hawaii for dates, beginning with a visit to the USS Arizona Memorial. The floating memorial is unlike anyplace else in the United States: It’s built over the remains of the battleship USS Arizona, which was bombed by Japan on December 7, 1941, and can only be reached by boarding a boat at the visitor’s center. After this somber experience, experience Kauai Bachelor-style by hiking to one of the island’s famous waterfalls, cruising on a catamaran and dining at a luau. Discover more things to do in our destination guide to Honolulu.
The 17th season of The Bachelor was one of the few to result in a long-lasting relationship: bachelor Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici celebrated their fourth anniversary in 2018.iii Find your own true romance at The Buccaneer resort in St. Croix, where Lowe and the ladies stayed. The Buccaneer still offers a Bachelor-inspired romance package, which includes massages, a beach picnic, a sunset sail and a snorkeling trip, among other perks.iv
On the show, contestants watched the sun rise at Point Udall, the easternmost point in the United States, visited a sugar mill and sailed to a private island on a catamaran. For your own Bachelor-inspired vacation, take a tip from host Chris Harrison: “If you get the chance to swing by St. Croix someday,” he says, “make sure you attend the crab races at one of the local watering holes.”v
If you really love The Bachelor, why not travel to its heart: Agoura Hills? This is the location of the mansion where the show has been filmed since 2007. (The iconic Malibu mansion from season one has been torn down.) First, the bad news: The mansion is not available for tours, because it serves as a family’s home whenever the show’s not filming.vi (You can visit the house virtually in this photo gallery.)
Even so, Agoura Hills is a nice place to spend a weekend, and it’s rich in Hollywood history. Explore the “M.A.S.H.” filming site and the Paramount Ranch, where an Old West-style town has been used to film movies and TV shows for decades. Maybe you can even rent an Airbnb with those stunning sunset views. Don’t forget the roses.
