Gen Z travelers are booking longer international vacations than their millennial counterparts, in some of the most luxurious locations around the world, a recent Airbnb data show. That’s despite making less on average than Millennials. Gen Z is able to afford these epic trips by taking advantage of off-season deals to explore iconic cities.

Paris is the top destination for Gen Z travelers this fall, Airbnb writes. Gen Z travelers are heading to the city of lights for cultural experiences — think museums, outdoor markets and picnics near the Eiffel Tower. Trips centered on partying seem to be less popular.

Here are the top off-peak Paris travel experiences and other destinations Gen Z travelers are headed to this fall for affordable luxury.

Explore Paris like a local

Museum Days

Of course a trip to Paris wouldn’t be complete without a visit to the Louvre. Don’t miss Mona Lisa’s iconic smile. But as one of the world’s biggest art capitals, Paris has many world class museums you must see. Other renowned museums include Musée d'Orsay, and Centre Pompidou.

For a quieter experience, check out Paris’ smaller museums that are still packed with world-class art. Opened in 2014, the Picasso Museum features more than 5,000 of Picasso’s works, donated by his family after his death. Explore Picasso’s legacy across a variety of mediums, including paintings, drawings, sculptures, ceramics and more. Get to know the artist through personal papers, correspondence and manuscripts.

Musée de Cluny – Le monde médiéval, known by Parisians as the Cluny, is a great museum for lovers of smaller, charmingly intimate museums. “You can tour the Cluny in an afternoon and still have energy to enjoy the lively 5th arrondissement,” writes Artsy Traveler.  Lovers of art from the middle ages must head to Cluny to see the iconic Lady and the Unicorn tapestries woven from silk and wool in Paris circa 1500.

Other trendy museums include the Zadkine Museum and the Quai Branly Museum.

Take a walking tour

If you want to hit all the highlights of Paris on one of your first days in the city, take the Paris Top Sights Half Day Walking Tour with a Fun Guide, to see more than 30 sights in Paris. Visitors say this whirlwind tour gave them ideas on landmarks to explore more extensively later in their trip. For a more leisurely stroll with in-depth stops, take the Montmartre Hidden Gems and Scenic Highlights Walking Tour.

Market Days

Paris is renowned for its amazing farmers markets and flea markets. If your accommodations include a kitchenette, you can sample France’s top produce from local farmers markets. Opened in 1615, The Marché des Enfants Rouges is Paris’ oldest food market.

Lovers of diverse cuisine should head to this market at midday. “This spot in the Marais stays pretty busy throughout the day, but you'll find it peaks at lunch time as the young and hip gather for Moroccan couscous, Lebanese sandwiches, Italian deli specialties, and plenty of fresh produce,” writes Conde Nast Traveler.

One of the largest markets in Paris, the Marche Bastille offers a variety of goods, including traditional cheeses, produce, seafood, meat, clothing and more. “On a lovely day, immerse yourself in this typically Parisian atmosphere to enjoy a falafel sandwich with a glass of freshly squeezed fruit juice,” writes Visit Paris Region.

If you are looking for unique souvenirs and thrifted finds, head to Saint-Ouen Flea Market, known as the world’s largest antique market. You’ll find vinyl records, antique art and vintage clothing.

Other popular flea markets include Montreuil Flea Market and Porte de Vanves Flea Market.

Eat like a Parisian

Paris is one of the world’s most renowned gastronomic capitals. Take a cooking class to learn how to transform the French staples you bought at Marche Bastille into a sumptuous meal. This Paris Cooking Class and Lunch with Wine plus Market Visit Option will teach you how to prepare a three-course French meal and pair it with the best wine.

Or if you’d rather leave the cooking to the pros in favor of exploring, take a walking food tour. Check out the A Taste of Paris: French Pastry Tour or the Drinks & Bites in Paris Tour.

Don’t forget to pack travel insurance for your next off-season adventure.

One of the best things about booking luxurious adventures in the off-season is saving money. But you can quickly eat into those savings if you experience an emergency while traveling.

You should know that your domestic health insurance policy may not fully protect you if you experience a medical emergency while traveling abroad. Without emergency medical travel insurance benefits, medical expenses incurred during your vacations can quickly add up. An Allianz Travel Insurance plan with emergency medical benefits may help fill health insurance gaps.

We also offer trip cancellation and interruption benefits that can reimburse certain non-refundable expenses if your trip is cancelled before you depart or midway for a covered reason. And our baggage protection benefits can reimburse certain non-refundable expenses if your baggage is lost, stolen or damaged.
