You’ve just booked your next trip. Congrats! And you’ve protected it with Allianz Travel Insurance. Great choice! You’ve even downloaded the Allyz® app. A+ for planning ahead! Allyz® is beyond travel-savvy, but how Allyz®-savvy are you? Are you taking advantage of everything the app has to offer?
The Global Doctor Visits tool within the Allyz® app helps take the mystery out of medical care while traveling abroad. Global Doctor Visits is easy to use, but most features are only fully accessible once you reach your destination. And, we believe in being a little overprepared (we bet you do, too). Read through this tutorial article so if you do need to use Global Doctor Visits once you’re abroad, you’ll feel like an expert before you even get there.
The Global Doctor Visits tool is only available in certain countries and territories—more than 100 of them, to be exact! Before you go, make sure your destination is included by checking the full list here.
Keep in mind that even if Global Doctor Visits is available at your destination, not all services are the same in all countries. For example, you’ll be able to choose an in-person or virtual appointment in many countries, but some only offer telehealth. Also, keep in mind that not every specialty will necessarily be available at every destination.
Lastly, you won’t be able to use Global Doctor Visits unless the Allyz® app can access your location, so make sure to update your location settings to ‘share’ before you go.
Open the Allyz® app on your phone. Then, scroll down the home screen until you see the featured services and benefits section. There, you’ll see the Global Doctor Visits tile.
If it doesn’t show up at first, scroll horizontally until it appears, or click the view all services button below the slider.
Click on the Global Doctor Visits tile. A screen will appear outlining service terms and conditions. Scroll down to read through the terms. When you’re ready, click the continue button to agree to the terms and move to the next screen.
A screen will appear that asks you to select one of your plans. It will show your Allianz travel insurance plan (or plans, if you have more than one) that include emergency medical benefits.
Click on the plan you would like to use for your medical claim during your trip. Then, click the select and continue button. Or, if the plan you want to use doesn’t appear, click on the add plan button.
Note that you’ll only be able to see your current plan or add a plan once your trip has already started.
A screen will load that lists your name, your travel insurance plan, and your location. There will also be a search bar where you can type in your specific medical need. Or, click on one of the tiles under the search bar in the available specialties section.
Once you enter your search, a list of results will pop up showing local doctors, their specialties, and how soon they’re available for an appointment. Most appointments happen within 24 hours, and all within 72 hours at the latest.
Scroll through the list and choose the specific doctor you’d like to see. Once you click on the doctor, you’ll see their clinic location, what types of appointments they offer (in a clinic, at your home / hotel, or virtual), and specific time slots they have available.
Or, if you don’t have a strong preference for who you see and would just like an appointment as soon as possible, click the first available doctor button to be connected with a doctor for a virtual appointment as soon as possible.
Once you select your preferred appointment time and type, you’ll fill in your patient details on the next screen. If you choose a virtual appointment, you’ll be asked to allow the Allyz® app to take pictures and record video to make sure everything is working properly ahead of time.
After you’ve booked your appointment, you’ll receive a confirmation message via email. If your appointment status changes for any reason, like if your doctor has to cancel or reschedule, you’ll receive a notification via email as well. That change will also show up on the home screen of the Allyz® app.
When it’s time for your appointment, you can join within the Allyz® app or via the link in your confirmation email.
When you aren’t feeling well, the last thing you want to worry about is how much your care will cost. Through Global Doctor Visits, you can be seen for your initial appointment and a follow-up if needed without any out-of-pocket costs. And, the Allyz® app makes it easy to file a claim to be reimbursed for certain prescription costs and other covered expenses.
You may never need to use the Global Doctor Visits tool while you travel (fingers crossed!). But in case you do, we hope this article helped you understand how.
With your Allianz travel insurance plan, the Allyz® app, and Global Doctor Visits at your fingertips, you can travel with confidence—if your health is ever in question, you’ll have all the help you need to find the answers.
