What To Do In A Medical Emergency

What To Do In A Medical Emergency

Are you experiencing a medical emergency while traveling? Allianz Global Assistance travel insurance customers should follow these steps.

Allianz - What To Do In A Medical Emergency

1. Don't Hesitate

In an emergency, call the emergency number. 9-1-1 works but it doesn’t work everywhere. 1-1-2 in Europe. You can look up local emergency numbers via the Allyz® TravelSmart app.

2. We've Got Your Back

You can call from anywhere in the world +1 804-281-5700 for urgent, non-life threatening conditions. With a little info from you, we’ll sort out the details to help you get the care you need at a pre-screened medical facility right away.

3. A Better Level of Care

We know, not all hospitals are the same. If the local hospital can’t meet the level of care you need, we can arrange transportation to the nearest appropriate facility. We will stay in touch with your doctor, review your daily medical reports, handle billing and provide interpretation services if needed.

4. Getting You (and Family) Back Home

We can arrange and pay to get your family back to the states if you're hospitalized for more than 7 days. Or... if you traveled solo we can arrange for someone to stay with you.

If your condition requires you to be transported to a U.S. medical facility, we’ll work with your primary care physician and health insurance to determine the best plan for transport.

If you require an air ambulance, a medical escort, oxygen, antibiotics or other medical support, Allianz Global Assistance can arrange and pay for it (up to the limits of your travel insurance policy).

5. Filing a Claim

We will stay in touch and when you’re feeling up to it we can help you start the claims process. Just remember, you have 90 days from the first day you pay out-of-pocket expenses, to submit your claim – except as otherwise provided by law. You can choose to file via the Allyz TravelSmart app or digitally via allianztravelinsurance.com. Be sure to submit all documentation including receipts, medical records, medical bills, etc. Questions? Call 1-866-884-3556 for help with the claims process.

The Right Plan

Are you protected during a medical emergency?

Not every travel insurance policy includes emergency medical, dental and transportation benefits. Does yours?

Read your plan carefully

If you have an existing medical condition, be sure to choose a plan that includes that benefit and confirm that you meet the requirements.
