7 Reasons to Buy Multi-Trip Insurance for Luxury Travel

Some people love to buy jewelry. Some people collect cars. You, on the other hand, believe the ideal way to spend your hard-earned money is traveling. And you’re not alone! The average American with a high net worth takes six trips for pleasure each year, according to a recent survey from BMO Private Bank, spending an average of $2,902 per trip.1

Just as you would insure your other investments (like that diamond ring or Audi RS 3), you should insure your vacations, too — especially luxury travel. And the best way to do it is with a multi-trip insurance plan that can protect every trip you take in a 365-day span. Here’s why.

1. Annual travel insurance is a supremely affordable way to protect your luxury travel investment.

If you take three or more vacations in a year, a multi-trip plan will almost always be less expensive than insuring each trip separately. But don’t take our word for it! If you already know approximately how much your upcoming trips will cost, get a quote for travel insurance for each trip. (It’ll only take you five minutes). Then, get a quote for multi-trip coverage (just select “Annual Plan” for the plan type) to see how much you’d save.

Please note that annual travel insurance plans tend to have lower limits on trip cancellation/interruption benefits, compared to single-trip plans. To fully protect an expensive luxury vacation, you may want to upgrade your trip cancellation coverage to match the full amount of your most expensive planned trip.

The AllTrips Executive Plan, for example, has a base limit of $5,000 for trip cancellation benefits. When you get a quote for this plan, you’ll have the option to upgrade to $7,500 or $10,000 in trip cancellation. That’s an annual maximum (not a per-trip maximum).

2. Multi-trip insurance restores your peace of mind.

Your daughters want an active vacation. Your son wants to lounge by the pool. Your husband’s only happy if he gets to play some golf. And the grandkids — wait! Who’s watching the grandkids?

Planning a trip for yourself is stressful enough. When you’re organizing a big, multigenerational vacation for the whole family, you need a master’s in organizational psychology just to make it work. Having multi-trip travel insurance simplifies travel planning because you know that at least your trip investment can be covered should you have to cancel for a covered reason.

3. Bad things can happen in the nicest places.

Luxury travel, by design, feels safe. You’re surrounded by caring and capable staff. High-end resorts, hotels and cruise ships furnish everything you could possibly need.

But no destination, no matter how posh, is immune from bad luck. When a medical emergency, monster storm, or other disaster strikes, even the world’s best hotel concierge won’t be able to help you. Travel insurance — and the experts on our emergency assistance hotline — can.

4. Annual travel insurance can cover all your little trips, too.

You always insure your big family vacation, but when you’re planning a short getaway to New York City, you skip the insurance. It’s only a weekend — what could go wrong? Everything, it turns out. Your flight’s delayed and your suitcase ends up in Honolulu.

With an annual insurance plan, even the smallest trips can be protected. Business trips, impromptu getaways, even single nights away (as long as you’re 100+ miles from home) can all be covered. So if things go awry, your travel insurance can help.

5. A multi-trip insurance plan can ease your business travel.

You’re all too familiar with the hassles of business travel: the flight delays before the crucial meeting, the missing bag that contains all your printed presentations, the grounded flight that forces you to stay one more night when you really just want to go home. Annual travel insurance can provide relief for events like these, even if your company is paying for the trip.

The AllTrips Executive Plan includes a few great benefits designed specifically for business travelers. Business equipment coverage can cover the reasonable replacement or repair of business equipment that has been lost, stolen, damaged or delayed by your common carrier, up to $1,000. Business equipment rental coverage can cover the reasonable costs of renting replacement business equipment, up to $1,000, if yours has been lost, stolen, damaged or delayed by your common carrier.

6. You don’t have to worry about rental car damage insurance.

To get to your villa on the Amalfi Coast, you decide to rent a car big enough to fit the family. But the rates you’re quoted are exorbitant — and on top of that, the rental car insurance will cost you un occhio della testa (literally, “an eye from your head.”)

Wait! Don’t buy extra rental car insurance you don’t need. Multi-trip insurance from Allianz Global Assistance includes a nice perk: a collision damage waiver for your rental car (not available for all countries and all cars and may not be available for residents of all states.) The Rental Car Damage Protector can cover the cost for covered collision, loss, and damage to the rental car up to $45,000 (or more, depending on the plan you choose) for your rental car.

7. Allianz Global Assistance provides travel insurance you can trust

The whole point of travel insurance is knowing that help will be there for you when you need it, no matter where you are. Allianz Global Assistance has 36 offices around the world, a U.S.-based medical team on call 24/7, and thousands of employees on the ground, ensuring that our reach is truly global. We insured trips for 35 million people in 2017, and thousands of customers have praised our service in their reviews.

And we use our own products! Most U.S. employees of Allianz Global Assistance carry an annual travel insurance plan for their own personal travel. For herself, Kimberly Seay, RN, BSN, the Director of Assistance, USA for Allianz Global Assistance, uses the AllTrips Executive Plan, which includes up to $50,000 in emergency medical benefits. “I want Americans to understand that they need travel insurance,” Seay says. “Unless you have an unlimited amount of money to pay for everything, travel insurance is essential.”2
